Tissue Engineering For Craniofacial Reconstruction
Link: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/03/070323171654.htm
Summary: Tissue engineering has promised to be an alternate solution for the reconstruction of lost or damaged organ and tissues.Tissue engineering plans to replenish the damaged tissues by using substitutes that can survive and function during regeneration and eventually grow into the host tissue.

Genetic Engineering
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn10533-genetic-engineering.html
Summary: Workers took eggs containing fruit-fly embryos in different stages of early development. Then they soaked them in DNA. In these experiments, the DNA was kept from other flies that were different in a lot of ways from those providing the eggs. The difference involved ten or eleven genes on different places on the chromosomes.

What is the purpose of genetic engineering in this article? To change the structure, the color of the bristles, wing veins, wing structure, and eye color
List three things you learned from this article in your own words.
1.) Genetic engineering changes your features.
2.) DNA occurs in the genes of chromosomes.
3.) It is not to soon to figure out how much genetic engineering is applied to man.
What impact would the absence of this process have on humanity. It would have consequences on the human race

Advance Made In Search For Genes Associated With Colon Cancer
Link:http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/07/070708173046.htm
Colon Cancer is one of those diseases that are passed down genetically. Perhaps not through every generations, but it really shows up in people whose family has a history of colon cancer. That's how you can link the two.

What is the purpose of genetic engineering in this article? to make a genetic discovery
List three things you learned from this article in your own words.I learned that colon cancer is genetic, I learned that there are alot of discoveries in this area, finally, I learned that you can use several methods to find the specific gene.
What impact would the absence of this process have on humanity?we wouldn't know much abou these diseases.

GM virus shrinks cancer tumours in humans
Link:http://www.newscientist.com/channel/health/dn12839-gm-virus-shrinks-cancer-tumours-in-humans.html
Summary: The article opens by telling us that a virus engineered to target cancer tumours has shown promising results in treating liver cancer in a small, early-stage clinical trial. Since the early 1990s researchers have tried using modern genetic engineering to tailor viruses to specifically infect and destroy cancer cells. But some experts say the specially designed viruses do not replicate fast enough within tumours to have a big impact.
What process is being used in the article? Engineering viruses to target cancer tumors.
What is the purpose of genetic engineering in this article? To help eliminate cancer tumors.
List three things you learned from this article in your own words. Viruses can help shrink tumors, rabies vaccination can shrink tumors, This process has been worked on for 17 years.
What impact would the absence of this process have on humanity? Without this process patients with tumors will have to wait longer until they find another way to shrink the cells.

Genetically Engineered 'Mighty Mouse' Can Run 6 Kilometers Without Stopping, Ukyla Johnson
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/071101162739.htm-
They use mainly the fatty acids for energy and produce very very small amounts of lactic acid. They also eat 60 percent more althought they remain fit, leaner, and breed longer than the wild mice in the controled group. Some female mice have children when they are only 2.5 years old. That's amazing since they don't have children after they are one year old.
What process is being used in the article?
They had over expressed the gene for enzyme phosphoenolypyruvate carboxykinases(PEPCK-C).
What is the purpose of genetic engineering in this article?
The purpose of them doing all this is to understand the metabolic and physiological function of (PEPCK-C) in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue.
List three things you learned from this article in your own words.
I learned that they were studying the rats before they expressed the gene. They found out that some of them had higher levels of that particular gene because they were more active. They also found out that they where really more aggrissive.
What impact would the absence of this process have on humanity?
We wouldn't have understood clearly why some people are able to do things for long periods of time without stopping. We wouldn't have also known that this gene is somewhat mainly the cause for it.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071008171030.htm
Geneticly engineered "Bt" corn is harmiing aquatic ecosystems. Bt as we call it has gene that is suppose to protect the corn against insects and pest is harming aquatic organims. It procues a toxin that when gets in streams in ponds is reduces growth in the organims.

See-Thruogh Frog: No Dissection Necessary
Link: http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2007/09/27/seethroughfrog_ani_02.html?category=animals&guid=20070927100000
Summary: Two frogs are crossed, and they both have recessive genes. The crossing led to the frog's offspring becoming transparent. The transparent frog can produce offspring that would be like their parent's traits. But they would die after being birthed.
Questions: What process is being used in the article?
What is the purpose of genetic engineering in this article? The purpose in this article is to clone two frogs with recessive genes.
List three things you learned from this article in your own words. 1. I learned how they cloneds the frogs. 2. I learned how the frogs came out (transparent) and why they came out that way. 3. I learned that the grandchildren frog could die after being birthed.
What impact would the absence of this process have on humanity? It would create different types of frogs, and some could be able to live and some would not because if the way they are made.
