Molecular Biologists Devise Strategy To Starve Brain Tumors, Ukyla Johnson

http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/2007/0910-unraveling_brain_tumors.htm-

Brain tumors come up from cancer stem cells living in small safe areas made by blood vessels in the brain. They thought all brain tumors were the same but there was a small group of cancer cells that give rise to the cells that forms cancer. They found out that they live close to bloodvessels that feed them.

What are the symptoms of this disease? It messes up the functions in the brain and if you don't get it checked it can kill you.

How is this disease passed from person to person?
It isn't passed from person to person it is really a genetic mutation in the cell.

List three things you learned from this article in your own words. In experiments he said that the drugs that targets the blood vessels also kills the cancer stem cell as well and can wipe out the tumor completely. The drugs Avastin andTarceva are no being used on humans to see if they can target the cancer stem cells. Lastly the ones in breast and colon cancer contain stem cells and mabye could be treated the same way.

What impact does this disease have on the US economy? It doesn't really have a major impact on the US economy other than cause many people to have cause with their bodies. If it wasn't treated and people didn't know what it was many people probably would have died.
