Emphysema

Summary: Emphysema is a chronic lung disease caused by exposure to toxic chemicals or long term tobacco smoke. This disease is characterized by the loss of elasticity of lung tissue,destruction of structures, and destruction of capillaries feeding the aveoli. Result of this is the small airways collapse during expiration, leading to an obstructive form of lung disease.

What are the symptoms of this disease?Shortness of breath on exertion,hyperventilation,and an expanded chest.

How is this disease passed from person to person? By second hand smoke over long periods of time or exposure to relaesed dangers toxics by companies.

List three things you learned from this article in your own words. I learned that smoke and toxics are very dangerous and leads to many poblems. I learned that Emphysema is a lung disease. I also learned that this disease is preventable in most ways and is a lifestyle disease.

What impact does this disease have on the US economy? This disease has a huge impact on the US because a lot of money is spent annualy trying to controll the disease. It also brings many restrictions on many companies that release these toxic chemicals that cause the disease.
